I'm not sure if this is the proper category to post in, but I'm looking for some help or clues to reading and converting instrument values from TFM MusicMaker and VOPM over to values usable on actual Yamaha hardware.
I have a TX81Z (YM2414) and have been using the great TX81Z Editor for it ( http://the-all.org/tx81z/programmer.html ) There is a screenshot there of the voice editor so you can get an idea of what it looks like compared to TFM/VOPM
A lot of the settings generally match up, AR, D1R, D1L, D2R, RR, etc... TL is 0-99 on the TX81Z rather than 127-0.
It seems the thing I'm having trouble with is the Frequency of each operator, in TFM/VOPM you change a MULT value 0-15 which I assume is for the frequency, but on the TX81Z you have more options for setting that, using a fixed range (255Hz to 32Khz) to start with, or a ratio between coarse 0-63 and fine 0-15.
Out of all the messing around I haven't quite gotten it sounding right yet and feel like I'm just guessing, so I'm just wondering if there is some math I'm needing to use for converting the MULT value from TFM/VOPM into the correct frequency.
Even better would be a TFI / OPM to SYSEX *.syx converter Or even to *.tf8 which the TX81z editor uses. It looks like tf8 is a lot more lightweight compared to sysex. |
