If it's a datasheet you need, it might be better to contact Yamaha directly explaining what you're trying to do and why you need it. They might be kind enough to send it to you. You could end up going in circles trying to get information from NEC. Smile

About YMF297 and YMF288 datasheets:
As I said before - they are... erm.... not to helpful Sad

"Dear Slawomir Bubel,
Thank you for your inquiry of 2007/10/01.

Yamaha is a sound chip provider to sound card manufacturers. We do not have retail function and therefore do not sell LSI products directly to individual consumers.
Regarding your question, we would like to recommend you to contact your PC manufacturer for appropriate support.

If you are looking for driver download, you can find some information on
Yamaha website below:
http://www.yamaha.co.jp/english/product/lsi/us/support/downloads.html

Please note that the drivers available at Yamaha website are GENERIC
drivers only; therefore, if your PC manufacturer has customized the driver for their product, Yamaha's generic driver would not work. In that case, please address your problem to your PC manufacturer and obtain the suitable driver.

Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

Sincerely,
Webmaster
Yamaha Corporation (Headoffice in JAPAN)"

Hmm ... I guess Yamaha's changed a bit ... I contacted them years ago, and they were fairly kind and responsive. But this could have been because I had requested information since I was still in college. I think might be a a way to get the information from NEC, but I honestly have no idea what the "magic words" are ... especially given that they don't manufacture the PC-9801-118 any more.

The other problem is that since the PC-9801-118 was only sold in Japan, if there is documentation, it's likely to only be in Japanese. Was the YMF288 used in any other hardware outside Japan?
